JOHN CARLOS ROWE PAPERS

This collection includes the research and publications of John Carlos Rowe, literary critic and former professor of English at UC Irvine. The collection is primarily composed of his work as an author of literary criticism and works in American studies. It contains notes, drafts of essays, reviews, lecture and conference material, book manuscripts, galleys, and page proofs. Digital copies of two of Rowe's books have also been included.

RICHARD RORTY PAPERS

Richard Rorty was a pragmatist philosopher, critical theorist, and public intellectual. He is commonly described as one of the most influential thinkers of his era. A philosopher with a remarkably broad intellectual range, his work included the development of a distinctive brand of pragmatism as well as significant contributions to literary criticism, political theory, and other scholarly fields. He also wrote for such publications as The Nation and The Atlantic.

MARK POSTER PAPERS

Mark Poster was Professor of History and Film & Media Studies at the University of California, Irvine, and also taught in the Critical Theory Emphasis. Additionally, he had appointments in the Department of Information and Computer Science and the Department of Comparative Literature. He authored or edited more than 17 books and 90 articles on European intellectual history, the social and cultural theory of electronically mediated information, postmodernism, and critical theory, among other subjects.

ROBERT LANGFORD MONTGOMERY JR. PAPERS

Robert Langford Montgomery Jr. was a professor of Comparative Literature at the University of California, Irvine. This collection includes his personal and professional papers. It is composed of materials primarily related to Montgomery's education and career as a Shakespearean scholar. Included are personal memorabilia, student notes and notebooks, correspondence, research notes, annotated texts, essays, lectures, reviews, and books.

J. HILLIS MILLER PAPERS

J. Hillis Miller is a Distinguished Professor of Comparative Literature and English at the University of California, Irvine. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the field of nineteenth and twentieth century English and American literature and in literary theory. The collection best documents Miller's intellectual life as a specialist in Victorian and Modern British and American literature, a Derridean deconstructionist, and a university educator. Some personal material, such as family papers, photographs, and awards, are also included.

LOUIS MARIN OFFPRINTS

Louis Marin was widely known for his work in a variety of areas: linguistics, semiotics, theology, philosophy, anthropology, rhetoric, art and institutional history and literary theory. Throughout his career, Marin's main intellectual focus was seventeenth-century French literature, particularly the works of Pascal, Perrault, Poussin and Philippe de Champaigne. In addition, he published numerous articles on the visual arts and religious texts. This collection comprises offprints of his critical theory articles published, and a bibliography of his work.

CATHERINE MALABOU PAPERS

Catherine Malabou is a philosopher and theorist and professor in the department of Philosophy at the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy at Kingston University. She was the 2015 Wellek Library Lecturer at the University of California, Irvine, and is Distinguished Visiting Professor of Comparative Literature at UC Irvine starting in the Spring 2016 quarter. Malabou was a student of Jacques Derrida at Jean-Luc Marion during her doctoral studies at the Ecole Normale Superieure Lettres et Sciences Humaines (Fontenay-Saint-Cloud).

MURRAY KRIEGER PAPERS

Murray Krieger, along with others, started a post-war struggle against institutional resistance to theory and criticism that was intended to create a place in departments of literature for literary criticism that is well grounded in theory. Krieger thereby played a leading role in establishing literary criticism and theory as a legitimate discipline within literature programs. This collection comprises book manuscripts, articles, seminars, lectures, correspondence and other writings documenting his professional life.

RENÉE RIESE HUBERT PUBLICATIONS AND PAPERS

Renée Riese Hubert was Professor Emerita of French and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Irvine. This collection consists of his publications and other papers. The collection includes artists' books, publications about artists' books, including art exhibition and artists' catalogs, journals, books, and publishers' catalogs, correspondence, and clippings. Materials are in English and French.
