INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR HUMANISTIC DISCOURSES RECORDS

The International Center for Humanistic Discourses at the University of California, Irvine, was a research center to study "the cultural function of the humanistic discourses and, more particularly, the constitutive contribution of the arts to the formation of culture" (Quote from project proposal, circa 1992-1993). Principal investigators were Murray Krieger and Wolfgang Iser, but members of the center included Hazard Adams, Ernst Behler, Hendrik Birus, Jacques Derrida, J. Hillis Miller, K. Ludwig Pfeiffer, Bill Readings, Pauline Yu, and Wang Ching-hsien. This collection includes records for the operation of the Center. Forms of materials include published papers, conference summaries, conference transcripts, correspondence, conference planning papers, the Humboldt grant proposal, member rosters, audio cassette recordings, photographs, and one VHS.
