SAFAA FATHY VIDEO RECORDINGS OF JACQUES DERRIDA

This collection comprises video recordings made by Safaa Fathy to document selected public lectures and other activities of the French philosopher and critical theorist Jacques Derrida between 2000 and 2004. Events include public lectures, panel discussions, conferences, and ceremonies. Some events contain recordings of additional participants, including theorists such as Jürgen Habermas, Hélène Cixous, and Axel Honneth.

MARLI SHOOP AUDIO RECORDINGS OF E. DONATO AND W. ISER LECTURES

This collection consists of 85 audio cassette recordings of lectures by Eugenio Donato and Wolfgang Iser, as collected by former University of California, Irvine graduate student Marli Shoop. Shoop recorded the lectures while enrolled in courses at UC Irvine in the winter and spring quarters of 1982. Recordings consist primarily of lectures by Eugenio Donato.

INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR HUMANISTIC DISCOURSES RECORDS

The International Center for Humanistic Discourses at the University of California, Irvine, was a research center to study "the cultural function of the humanistic discourses and, more particularly, the constitutive contribution of the arts to the formation of culture" (Quote from project proposal, circa 1992-1993). Principal investigators were Murray Krieger and Wolfgang Iser, but members of the center included Hazard Adams, Ernst Behler, Hendrik Birus, Jacques Derrida, J. Hillis Miller, K.

CRITICAL THEORY OFFPRINT COLLECTION

This collection contains nearly 10,000 published offprints acquired as part of the personal papers of several prominent critical theorists. Their topical coverage of includes the disciplines of comparative literature, literary theory, and critical theory. The offprints were separated because they were not of enduring value in documenting the scholarly work of the theorists with whose personal papers they were received. These include: Paul de Man Papers (MS-C04), Ihab Hassan Papers (MS-C05), and Murray Krieger Papers (MS-C02).

UC IRVINE CRITICAL THEORY EMPHASIS RECORDS

This collection contains administrative records and flyers from Critical Theory Emphasis (CTE), an interdisciplinary program for graduate students at the University of California, Irvine's School of Humanities. The majority of the records belonged to former Emphasis director Alexander Gelley and focus on general administration of the Emphasis from 1995-1998.

RARE BOOKS ON AESTHETICS AND LITERARY THEORY

This collection could be referred to as the CTA's "genealogy of theory collection," since it attempts to trace the development of the field of critical theory. It includes more than 350 volumes pertaining to the study of aesthetics and literary criticism. Most of the texts in the collection were published in the 18th century in Great Britain. It includes well-known titles by canonical figures, such as William Hogarth and Joshua Reynolds, as well as works by as-yet-undiscovered authors.

ROBERT WEIMANN PAPERS

This collection consists of published works by Robert Weimann, Shakespearean scholar and Professor Emeritus, Department of Drama, University of California, Irvine. The bulk of the collection consists of works by Weimann, comprising preprints, reprints, and offprints of journal articles, book chapters, and books. There is also the correspondence with Murray Krieger between 1988 and 1994.
